My First Baby Shower

November 5, 2015

‘When is your baby shower?’… At first, I was quite against the idea of having a baby shower. It seemed like an event that people were forced to get us gifts. And then our best friends told us that gifts were only one part of the event. The main idea was for our dearest friends to show us how much they love us and they wanted to spread the joy of welcoming a new member into our circle of friends. Also, there will be food, tasty pastries and sandwiches… So, we said yes to the shower.

The event turned out to be the most amazing baby shower with the most delicious food like I was promised. It got fox cupcakes (our favourite animal), freshly baked scones, fruit and veggie kabobs, cake, multiple selections of finger sandwiches and macaroons.

Everyone brought a story book to the shower and each of them was signed with a special message to our baby. When the baby grows up and reads the messages, she will know how much she is loved by her parents friends even before she is born.

Outdoor Maternity Photos

October 19, 2015

I never feel comfortable having my photographs taken by other people. I just feel awkward with a frozen smile. However, I do want to leave some record of me being pregnant (after all this is one of the most daunting yet weirdly exciting time of my life). I have decided to do my own maternity photos with a tripod and remote control. And here is the first of the series…

Tate Dining Room and Bar, Hong Kong

October 12, 2015

tate

I dined at Tate Dining Room and Bar in Hong Kong a few months ago. This restaurant caught my eyes when the chef of this restaurant, Vicky Lau, was awarded Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2015 by The World’s 50 Best Restaurant.

When I walked into the restaurant, it was not hard to notice the feminine touches around place. From the decor, cutleries to plate presentation, everything seemed lighter, softer and warmer. You could sense the minimal and elegant Japanese influence in Chef Lau’s choice of ingredients, cooking methods and plating. The food was exceptional and exactly what you would expect from a michelin star restaurant. What made this restaurant raised above others was Chef Lau’s artistic styling of every single plate. Each of them was like a piece of art. When you thought she couldn’t top the last dish, she would prove you wrong. She left the prettiest dishes to the end with dessert. The honey bee dessert and the Japanese zen garden petit four were the highlights of the meal. They were so breathtakingly beautiful you would feel like they were the printings that you were not supposed to touch at an art gallery.

Nursery Wall Idea

October 6, 2015

nursery-wall-idea

For our new nursery, we want it to be really fun and colourful. I’m not a big friend of wallpaper or wall decal, so naturally when my designer brother offers to paint my nursery wall, I know I can count on him to bring my vision into reality.

There are a few must-have items I want on the nursery wall:

1) A bear

2) Simple and bold background

3) Gender neutral colour

After going to my friend Pinterest for some advices, I came across a post from Emily Henderson blog. That post gave me tons of inspirations and ideas. I created a mood board for my brother to illustrate what I’m looking for. A few days later, he gives me the design and it is exactly how I would imagine it…bear_wall

Pregnancy Week By Week

October 5, 2015

Originally I want to take a weekly picture to document my pregnancy progress. It turns out I’m too lazy to do it weekly (well, I shouldn’t be surprised) and I’m highly unphotogenic when I’m pregnant. So I can only summon the courage to do three and here is the result…

Stylish Story Books for Trendy Babies

September 30, 2015

Lullaby and Kisses SweetI want to build a massive collection of gorgeous story books with great design and illustration. It turns out to be a little bit more difficult than I thought. I find a lot of books with cute or kid-friendly pictures, but they are not exactly my taste when it comes to the style of illustration and design. After some long and hard searching, I finally find what I’m looking at TYPE on Queen Street West, Toronto. All the kids story books there are selected carefully with great stories and great design in mind. Here are some of my top picks…

1) Lullaby and Kisses Sweet

Lullaby and Kisses Sweet Cover

Beloved children’s poet and anthologizer Lee Bennett Hopkins has produced more than 100 volumes of poetry throughout his illustrious career, but Lullaby and Kisses Sweet is his first collection geared toward babies and toddlers. Featuring 30 original poems by esteemed children’s writers like Jane Yolen, Marilyn Singer, and J. Patrick Lewis, the book introduces the youngest readers to loving rhymes in a playful, accessible way.

This beautifully designed casebound board book is organized into five themes—Family, Food, “Firsts,” Playtime, and Bedtime—while cuddly, anthropomorphized animals make the poems friendly and relatable. Lullaby and Kisses Sweet fosters the love of poetry and is the perfect gift for babies, toddlers, and their poetry-loving parents. (Copied from Amazon.com)

2) TouchThinkLearn: Opposites

TouchThinkLearn: Opposites

Introducing TouchThinkLearn books, a format unlike any other. Combining scooped-out die-cuts with raised, shaped elements, each book is designed to offer the youngest learners an irresistible opportunity to explore their universe in a hands-on, multi-sensory way. Seeing the image, tracing its shape, saying its name: these modes of perception combine in a dynamic way to stimulate understanding of essential concepts. Experience green both in the beauty of a raised leaf’s surface as well as in the caterpillar that munches on the leaf’s edge. Celebrate a moon rising into the night, while simultaneously a sun sets deep into the mirroring page. Translating abstract thought into tangible knowledge, groundbreaking TouchThinkLearn books give early learning new dimension. (Copied from Amazon.com)

3) The Most Magnificent Thing

The Most Magnificent Thing

Award-winning author and illustrator Ashley Spires has created a charming picture book about an unnamed girl and her very best friend, who happens to be a dog. The girl has a wonderful idea. “She is going to make the most MAGNIFICENT thing! She knows just how it will look. She knows just how it will work. All she has to do is make it, and she makes things all the time. Easy-peasy!” But making her magnificent thing is anything but easy, and the girl tries and fails, repeatedly. Eventually, the girl gets really, really mad. She is so mad, in fact, that she quits. But after her dog convinces her to take a walk, she comes back to her project with renewed enthusiasm and manages to get it just right. For the early grades’ exploration of character education, this funny book offers a perfect example of the rewards of perseverance and creativity. The girl’s frustration and anger are vividly depicted in the detailed art, and the story offers good options for dealing honestly with these feelings, while at the same time reassuring children that it’s okay to make mistakes. The clever use of verbs in groups of threes is both fun and functional, offering opportunities for wonderful vocabulary enrichment. The girl doesn’t just “make” her magnificent thing — she “tinkers and hammers and measures,” she “smoothes and wrenches and fiddles,” she “twists and tweaks and fastens.” These precise action words are likely to fire up the imaginations of youngsters eager to create their own inventions and is a great tie-in to learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Finding the Perfect Nursing Chair

September 19, 2015

nursing_chair

I have always wanted to buy an accent chair for our living room. Now that I’m pregnant, I finally have a reason to drop some serious money on the most comfortable chair ever… Just for ME… Well while holding my baby!

The search on finding the perfect chair is a lot of fun. I have never known how comfortable a chair can be until I try sitting in a nursing chair. It rocks, it glides, it reclines and it has amazing back support. Here are some of the nursing chairs I have tried and absolutely love. Now I just need to figure out which one to get…

New Direction

2015-09-burberry-02

Haven’t updated my blog for a while. It is not because I stopped eating fancy or my appreciation of food has decreased. It’s mostly because of something big has happened.

Now I want to go back in and blog more but this time, the topic of interest will change to a territory that no one would think I would dare to step into… Motherhood.

I have always expressed strongly how I dislike babies, kids and teenagers. They are dirty, loud, ill manner, running around recklessly little sucker I always have no interest to be a part of. I would not go to family friendly restaurant. I would think twice for any dinner invitation if I know babies or kids are going to be there. I would pay for VIP movie ticket just to avoid sitting next to a teenager.

Now everything has changed. I’m pregnant with a 6-month baby girl who loves doing bicycle kick in my belly all the time. Soon I will have a little something standing next to me and doing all the stuff that I used to hate… And surprisingly I’m really excited about it…
